The Heart of Who We Are: The Values That Shape Akademi Kristus

At Akademi Kristus, we believe that lasting change happens when people feel seen, valued, and supported in what they do and who they are. Since our earliest days, our goal has never been to run programs, teach skills, or offer activities. It’s always been about building a community where young people, especially those from marginalised backgrounds, can grow into confident, capable, and compassionate adults.

To achieve this, we are guided by four core values. These aren’t empty slogans or buzzwords; they’re the foundation of how we treat each other, how we deliver our programs, and how we hope to impact the world around us. They shape our decisions, influence our culture, and help define what it means to be part of the Akademi Kristus family.

Here’s a deeper look at what these values mean to us.

Christian: Reflecting Love, Compassion, Acceptance, and Respect

Akademi Kristus was founded on Christian principles, but our commitment goes beyond religious labels. For us, this value means creating a culture where love, compassion, acceptance, and respect are practised daily.

Everyone is created in God’s image and has inherent worth and potential. That belief is reflected in the way we interact with the young people in our programs, their families, our volunteers, and the broader community.

What does this look like in practice?

  • Welcoming young people regardless of their faith background or personal history.
  • Offering second chances and believing in the potential of those society often overlooks
  • Supporting families under challenging circumstances with care and dignity.
  • Teaching by example what it means to serve others and show kindness without condition.

Our faith inspires us to lead with empathy, forgive quickly, offer hope, and treat every individual with the respect they deserve. While our programs are open to all, they are infused with Christian values that quietly but powerfully shape our community.

Inclusive: Embracing Differences and Adapting to Individual Needs

In a world that often divides people by differences, Akademi Kristus chooses to embrace them. Our commitment to inclusivity means recognising and valuing the uniqueness of every individual, whether that difference is cultural, physical, emotional, or circumstantial.

We understand that no two young people are alike, so our programs aren’t one-size-fits-all. We actively work to adapt and personalise our activities to meet the diverse needs of those we serve.

This means:

  • Modifying martial arts training for children with physical or intellectual disabilities.
  • Providing flexible educational support for young people who struggle in traditional classroom settings.
  • Offering a safe, welcoming space for youth from minority groups, broken homes, or disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Training our staff and volunteers to respond with sensitivity and creativity to the needs of individuals.

By fostering an environment where everyone feels like they belong, we’re not only building confidence in the young people we serve but also modelling a community where differences are celebrated and every person is valued for who they are.

Disciplined: Teaching the Value of Hard Work and Perseverance

Discipline is one of the most essential life skills we can teach, and at Akademi Kristus, it’s about far more than just showing up on time or following rules. It’s about helping young people understand the importance of consistent effort, personal responsibility, and resilience in the face of setbacks.

Many of the young people we work with have faced significant challenges, such as poverty, family instability, or a lack of positive role models. Our programs aim to fill that gap, teaching not just physical skills or academic lessons but the character traits that lead to long-term success.

In practice, this value looks like:

  • Encouraging students to set personal goals and celebrate the small victories along the way
  • Using martial arts training to build focus, commitment, and resilience.
  • Holding young people accountable for their responsibilities while offering them the support they need to meet those expectations.
  • Reinforce the message that discipline isn’t about punishment; it’s about taking ownership of your choices and working steadily toward a better future.

We want our students to understand that success rarely comes overnight. It’s built one small, disciplined decision at a time.

Positive: Creating an Encouraging, Joyful Environment for Growth

At Akademi Kristus, we believe that the environment matters. A positive, supportive atmosphere can be the difference between a young person giving up and believing they can overcome.

Many of the children and teenagers who join our programs face tough circumstances, whether financial hardship, family conflict, or social exclusion. We intentionally cultivate spaces filled with encouragement, laughter, and hope.

This commitment to positivity means:

  • Ensuring our coaches, teachers, and volunteers model optimism and speak words of encouragement
  • Celebrating effort and progress, not just outcomes.
  • Creating opportunities for fun, friendship, and creative expression alongside hard work and discipline.
  • Helping young people reframe failure as a stepping stone to growth.

By fostering a positive environment, we give our students the courage to try new things, the resilience to get back up after setbacks, and the belief that their future can be brighter than their past.

Why These Values Matter

These four values (Christian, Inclusive, Disciplined, and Positive) are about more than organisational identity. They’re about shaping lives. Each value complements the others, creating a balanced approach that addresses not only the physical and intellectual needs of young people but also their emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being.

Our vision is to see a generation of young people in Bali and beyond grow into adults who are strong in character, confident in their worth, and committed to making a positive difference in their communities. These values are our roadmap for getting there.

When you support Akademi Kristus, you’re not just funding programs. You’re investing in a way of life, one built on hope, compassion, discipline, and joy.
