Who we are

Akademi Kristus is a not-for-profit initiative in Bali dedicated to transforming the lives of Indonesian youth through education, martial arts and creative arts. What began as a modest project teaching children on a tarpaulin under a tree has now evolved into a powerful force, providing educational and support opportunities to the children and their families.

We operate as a registered charity in Indonesia under the name Yayasan Akademi Kehidupan Bali (Bali Life Academy), and in Australia we are under the registered charity A2B.

At Akademi Kristus, our philosophy is based on the PEMS Model: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual growth. This holistic approach guides both our students and staff, setting us apart from other schools and community centres. We believe in fostering complete transformation and creating an environment where personal growth and restoration can thrive.

We are passionate about mentoring children and empowering them to build their own futures. Our goal is not to offer a handout, but rather a hand up, providing long-term support and opportunities for self-empowerment.

PHYSICAL

Physical well-being is about caring for our bodies as temples of God — through regular movement, nutritious food, restful sleep, and healthy routines that sustain energy and strength for life and service.

EMOTIONAL

Emotional well-being involves understanding, expressing, and regulating feelings in a way that fosters resilience, empathy, and healthy relationships with self and others.

MENTAL

Mental well-being is the development of a growth mindset, clarity of thought, and disciplined focus. It includes the pursuit of wisdom, reflective practice, and sound decision-making rooted in truth.

SPIRITUAL

Spiritual well-being flows from a deep connection to God, a sense of purpose, and a life lived in alignment with Christ’s teachings. It is the foundation for identity, integrity, and hope.

Our history

Erma and Geoff’s Story

We are Erma and Geoff Collins, and our journey began when we moved to Indonesia in 2001. After marrying in Surabaya in 2004, we welcomed our three wonderful children: Chloe, Kellie, and Kasy. In 2011, we decided to leave Surabaya and make Bali our home, driven by our desire to dedicate our lives to helping those in need.

Starting from humble beginnings, we taught children in a slum community, holding classes on a tarpaulin under a tree. In 2015, with the support of Woon Ooi, Jamie Murray, and the Australian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community, we were able to move our project to what is now known as Akademi Kristus Sanur.

Over the years, as our community and vision grew, we transformed our adjoining house into classrooms to better serve our expanding student population. The range of classes and services we offer at AK has also developed significantly, including nationally recognised education opportunities, a nutrition program, disability support, vocational training, and a diverse array of martial arts, dance, and music programs. We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received and remain committed to making a difference in the lives of those around us.

Akademi Kristus is an organisation dedicated to bringing hope to the lives of Indonesian youth, families, and communities. We achieve this by cultivating meaningful relationships and offering a range of programs designed to foster confidence, empower individuals, and equip them to reach their goals.
